Ruby the Rainbow Owl Plays Tourist at the Rail Yard Market by KD Rivera

Ruby is a Rainbow Owl. Rainbow Owls are the adventurers of their species. 

Ruby lives tucked in an AirBirdNBird in a ancient pinion tree on Franklin Street. Ruby is on her way to the RailYard Market with her basket and camera after a quick nibble at the Tune-up Cafe. 

Her 20” body is made from tie-dyed silk duppioni, Thai silk broadcloth, bengaline and moire black recycled rayon. Small mustard colored buttons top hand stitching on her ankles.

Her arms, made from peacock blue bengaline, are attached with pearl buttons.

Her head is hand embroidered with 5 shades of pearl cotton. Gold safety eyes peer out under tufted eyebrows. Her under beak is a batik white and black bone bead.

Her removable accessories include a short batik cotton Edwardian jacket,  full skirt, pillbox hat with matching shoulder bag and miniature single lens reflex camera. 

The Edwardian jacket fastens with 2 antiqued silver clasps and has blanket stitched velveteen collar and hand painted vintage lace. The skit, made from peacock blue cotton batik, is gathered at the waist. The bottom sweep of the skirt has white floral edging lace and yellow hand painted vintage bobbin lace.

The pillow box hat and shoulder bag are shaped from merino wool felt. The hat band is sequin covered trim. The bag has straps made from Thai silk broad cloth.

Her necklace strings vintage British butterscotch amber with blue lace agate, faceted crystal and faux turquoise stones. The miniature camera was made in Spain.
